Partnership with the Jolkona Foundation
Thursday, October 23, 2008
We are very pleased to announce that we have formed a partnership with the Jolkona Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports worldwide grass-roots activities and fosters individual productivity. The Jolkona Foundation was co-founded by Adnan Mahmud, a full-time program manager at Microsoft Corporation. The partnership provides a new way to donate to the Sigida Keneyali (Health in Our Homes) program. Currently in Mali, people do not access healthcare because they do not have the knowledge or means to prevent and identify disease or to seek care. The goal of the shared project, called High-impact Home Healthcare (H3) in Slums in Mali, is to add 2009 more people to the Sigida Keneyali program in 2009. Under this program, which currently covers 1837 people, MHOP Community Health Workers use locally-designed visual peer education cards to teach women and children about important health issues. The workers diagnose problems in the home and bring women and children to the local clinic if necessary. The the value of the health services received by the programs nearly 2000 participants is five times what is contributed, thanks to the sponsorship of the local clinic and Malian government. In addition, the Jolkona Foundation will help MHOP develop an Electronic Medical Record system in order to facilitate health care. Together the Jolkona Foundation and MHOP hope to double the impact of the Sigida Keneyali program and, therefore, to double the aid given to people living the slums of Africa's fastest-growing city.
