Poopstock 2008 a Success
Sunday, October 19, 2008
On Sunday, October 19, the Merasi School in India and the Mali Health Organizing Project sponsored Poopstock, an annual outdoor party/fundraiser. The event, which lasted from 2-6 pm and was held on Governor Street in Providence, RI, featured live music, free food, and a good time (despite what its name might imply). The slightly bizarre backyard party included events such as a Creative Cake Contest and Bike Extravaganza. Poopstock was first held last year and was sponsored solely by the Merasi School in Rajasthan, India, which educates children in the lowest caste system in order to preserve Merasi culture. The Merasi School, like MHOP, is Brown student-founded; this year, MHOP and the Merasi School collaborated at Poopstock to raise awareness of their goals in creative and unexpected ways. A special thanks to all the attendees who were so enthusiastic about supporting two great causes.
